How customers search for an auto repair shop via an AI assistant
An AI assistant only mentions your garage if the brand, MOT price and practical details are clearly and unambiguous on your website.
What a customer is actually asking from an AI assistant
A customer does not type “car garage Rotterdam” into an AI assistant. He asks a question such as: which garage in the neighborhood can maintain my Volkswagen and what does an MOT cost approximately. That is a completely different type of question than a keyword. The assistant must compile the answer, not just show a list of links.
Frequently asked questions are about brand specialization and price, for example: is there a garage that maintains Volvo cars without me having to go to the dealer, or which garage does an MOT for a reasonable price including minor repairs. The assistant looks for companies that provide a clear answer to both points.
Urgent questions also arise: my car won't start, which garage can still look at it today. An AI assistant can only answer these questions if opening hours and the type of emergency service are found and up to date somewhere. If this information is missing, your garage will lose weight, even if you are indeed available.
Why brand and APK price are the deciding factor
A plumber or electrician is often about urgency and work area, as we describe in how customers search for a plumber via an AI assistant. This is different with a garage: customers choose by brand and price of the MOT, the annual inspection that every car must undergo. Those two things determine whether a garage comes into the picture at all.
Brand specialization is important because people think their car brand requires specific knowledge. If your garage specializes in German brands, or, on the contrary, maintains all brands, that should be on the website in so many words. If you only write “maintenance and repair”, an assistant will not be able to conclude that you are suitable for a specific question about a BMW or a Toyota.
The apk price is a first filter for many customers. If you do not mention a price or a price indication, an assistant cannot include your garage in answering the question: where is the cheapest MOT in the neighborhood. A concrete amount, even if it is a target price with a clear explanation, gives an assistant something to work with.
What an AI assistant needs to find your garage
An assistant does not read atmospheric photos and no sense of a brand. He needs facts: which brands you maintain, what an MOT costs, where you sit, when you are open and whether you offer a loan car. If that information is spread separately over multiple pages without an explanatory structure, there is little chance that an assistant will combine everything properly.
This is where the technical piece called schema.org helps: a standardized way to make your company data machine-readable. For a car garage, the appropriate type is AutoRepair. By applying this type, you can explicitly state that you are a garage, what your opening hours are and what services you offer, in a form that both search engines and AI assistants can read immediately.
Without this marker, an assistant has to guess based on running text, and guessing leads to errors or skips altogether. With AutoRepair filled in correctly, a system can be sure that it is a garage and not a car dealer or a car wash. This distinction is important, because a customer looking for an MOT is of no use to a garage that only sells cars.
Just like an electrician, for whom we explain what should be on the website as well as what should be on an electrician's website, the more explicit the facts, the greater the chance that an assistant will take over them correctly.
Common gaps in garage information
Many garage websites list “maintenance, MOT, repair” as single words, but not which brands are specifically maintained. An assistant can then neither confirm nor deny whether your garage is suitable for a Peugeot or a Kia. The result is that the garage is simply not mentioned for brand-specific questions, even if you would be able to maintain that car perfectly.
A second gap is the MOT price. Some garages list no price for fear it will seem too cheap or too expensive. For an AI assistant, however, no price means: no information to filter on, and thus no mention in a response where the customer asks about price. An indicative price with a note that additional work will be charged separately is better than nothing.
A third point is inconsistency across different places online: one phone number on the website, another on a business directory, and opening hours that don't match. An assistant encountering contradictory information often opts for the safest choice: not mentioning the garage. Consistency across website, directories and any social media pages is therefore just as important as the content itself.
How to implement this practically as a garage
Start with a page that indicates per brand whether you service that brand, with short, factual text. No marketing language, simply: 'We service and repair Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Škoda.' That is exactly the kind of sentence an assistant can adopt as an answer to a brand-specific question.
Display the MOT price clearly on a separate page or section, together with what is included and what an eventual repair after rejection will cost extra. Avoid vague terms like 'competitive rate' without a figure. An assistant can do nothing with 'competitive', but it can with a figure.
Then fill in the technical section with AutoRepair as a schema.org type, including opening hours, address and services offered. This is not text that the visitor sees, but information that machines read. If you cannot do this yourself, it is something a web builder or search visibility specialist can fill in for you without the website looking any different.
Finally, verify that your information is the same everywhere: on your own website, on Google Business Profile and on any industry directories. The same approach applies to other tradespeople, as we discuss in the five mistakes an electrician most commonly makes online; inconsistency is one of the biggest obstacles to visibility in almost every sector.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't an AI assistant mention my garage when asked about MOT prices
Probably because there is no concrete figure or indicative price on your website. An assistant can only filter on information it can read. If you don't list a price anywhere, your garage will be ruled out in queries where price is decisive, even if you are actually competitive.
Do I need to create a separate page for each brand I service
Not necessarily separate, but the brands must be mentioned by name in clear text. One clear overview page with a list of all the brands you service is sufficient, as long as the text is explicit and doesn't just say 'all brands' without further explanation.
What is AutoRepair and do I need to set it up myself
AutoRepair is a standardized label from schema.org that indicates your business is a car garage, with associated data such as opening hours and services. This is technical markup, not visible text. You can have a web builder set it up; you don't need to write any code yourself.
