When someone rents out a holiday home, they only find out afterwards what has been consumed. The air conditioning that ran for a week, the charging point for the rental car, the heater by the open door: it all ends up on the landlord's bill, and they have the choice between a fixed nightly rate that penalizes the frugal guest, or reading the meter at the moment someone is standing ready with their suitcase. Staywatt removes that conversation: the guest buys kilowatt-hours in advance, sees their consumption running live, and buys more when it runs out.

When the balance is empty, the regular circuits switch off and the always-on circuit keeps running — refrigerator, freezer, wifi and emergency lighting. That distinction is the core of the product and not a detail: a system that leaves a property completely dark is a system that nobody will install in their rental. If the box fails or loses connection, nothing switches off at all; a failure on our part must never result in a dark property for the customer.

What it does

Metering per circuit

A box on the rail in the meter cabinet measures and switches up to four circuits separately. The always-on circuit stays outside the switching.

The guest settles the bill themselves

They scan the code in the property, buy kilowatt-hours at the price the landlord sets themselves, and pay with their own phone. No account, no app to install.

Charging on the same balance

Staywatt Charge lets the same guest use the same code to settle their charging current — without a charging card and without a subscription. For a holiday home, that is often more power than the rest of the week combined.

One monthly overview

Per property what was sold and what was paid out. For parks their own dashboard and a connection with the reservation system.

For whom

  • Private landlords of a holiday home, an apartment or a B&B room
  • Holiday parks and managers, from twenty to five hundred properties
  • Homeowner associations, hotels and sports clubs with a charging point that nobody pays for

Where it is found

The search field is the frustration and not the technology: 'pass energy costs on to guests', 'airbnb electricity consumption high', 'can I invoice energy separately', 'make the guest pay for the charging point'. Also a cluster of its own around charging, with a different audience — a homeowner association or a hotel doesn't have a holiday home.

Frequently asked questions

Does the refrigerator stay on when the balance runs out?

Yes. The always-on circuit keeps power, even with an empty balance: refrigerator, freezer, wifi and emergency lighting. Only the regular circuits switch off, and the guest can top up with his phone in half a minute.

Does an installer have to be involved?

It doesn't have to be, and most people do it anyway. The box clips onto the rail in the meter cabinet and four wires go on according to the diagram; for an installer that's a job of about an hour. You can do it yourself too. Switching it on afterwards happens with the phone.

Does that make Staywatt an energy supplier?

No. The landlord buys the electricity from their own supplier; Staywatt measures what the guest uses of it and settles that. We supply no energy and hold no supply license.
